BRYCER Highlights Virtual Walkthrough Service for a Smarter and a More Efficient Onboarding Experience

Remote property assessments accelerate building onboarding as BRYCER strengthens maintenance code compliance.

Buildings with undocumented fire protection systems often remain outside inspection programs, leaving fire departments, municipal building authorities, and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) with limited visibility into critical safety infrastructure. To address this gap, BRYCER is improving how jurisdictions onboard buildings through its Virtual Walkthrough service, a remote assessment process designed to identify fire protection systems and strengthen maintenance code compliance. The capability enables jurisdictions to assess properties, document critical systems, and bring buildings into The Compliance Engine more efficiently, supporting faster and more complete inspection oversight.

The Compliance Engine is a cloud-based compliance management platform that helps jurisdictions oversee inspection reporting for fire protection systems and other critical safety infrastructure.

Through its Virtual Walkthrough service, BRYCER enables fire protection systems to be identified even when building records are incomplete or unavailable. The process is led by BRYCER’s Data Quality team, which conducts structured remote evaluations when a property appears as “unknown” in The Compliance Engine. Using publicly available mapping tools such as Google Maps, the team reviews visible indicators such as fire alarms and sprinkler system components commonly found on commercial buildings. These systems are then documented, allowing the property to be integrated into the fire protection systems compliance program.

“Virtual Walkthrough helps jurisdictions address one of the most common challenges in fire safety oversight: identifying systems that were never properly documented,” a BRYCER representative said. “By capturing this information earlier, jurisdictions can establish inspection requirements sooner and ensure critical fire protection systems enter the compliance process.”

This remote identification process reshapes how jurisdictions onboard buildings without requiring immediate in-person inspections. For example, when a commercial property appears as “unknown” in The Compliance Engine, visible fire alarm panels, exterior sprinkler connections, or elevator equipment can be identified through remote assessments and documented within the elevator inspection program or other compliance workflows. Once documented, the Compliance Engine generates inspection requirements for licensed service providers. From there, newly identified systems move directly into the compliance workflow, ensuring oversight begins without delay.

Once systems are documented through the Virtual Walkthrough process, new inspection requirements are automatically generated for licensed service providers. As property owners receive these notifications, service providers often see increased inbound inspection requests without expanding marketing or outreach.

Beyond initial onboarding, The Compliance Engine centralizes reporting across multiple compliance programs, including the fire protection systems compliance program and backflow testing program. Submitted inspection reports are reviewed for accuracy and completeness, while jurisdictions gain access to automated notifications, compliance tracking tools, and a complete digital audit trail.

“The Compliance Engine integrates with existing inspection procedures and enforcement models,” a BRYCER spokesperson said. “Jurisdictions implement the platform at no cost, while service providers fund system use through a per-report fee that supports compliance outreach and program administration.”

Across many jurisdictions, thousands of fire and life safety installations remain untested each year due to incomplete records or limited system visibility. Virtual Walkthrough addresses this challenge by identifying systems remotely and bringing them into the compliance framework, ensuring inspections are scheduled and completed according to established maintenance code compliance standards.

By expanding the reach of The Compliance Engine, BRYCER continues to help jurisdictions strengthen oversight, improve data accuracy, and maintain reliable records of fire protection systems across their communities.
