Visiting Angels has been providing home care in Prosper, TX, that families can rely on since 1998.On January 8th, Sheri arrived at her client’s home and, as soon as she entered, noticed a gas smell. She immediately located the unlit stove burner that had been left on, safely evacuated the residents of the home, and called 911.

Prosper Fire Rescue confirmed elevated gas levels inside the residence upon arrival and noted that Sheri’s actions were performed correctly and without hesitation, keeping the residents safe and preventing a potentially catastrophic outcome.

Prosper Fire Rescue publicly recognized Sheri for her preparedness and composure, emphasizing the importance of awareness in preventing gas-related emergencies.

“We are grateful to Visiting Angels for their partnership and proud to recognize an everyday hero whose preparedness made all the difference,” a Prosper Fire Rescue spokesperson said. “Because of Sheri’s quick and correct actions, the residents were kept safe and unharmed.”

• Symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or headaches

The impact of Sheri’s response to this stressful situation was felt so deeply by the client’s family. According to the client’s daughter, Susan Galbraith, Sheri’s response made all the difference.

“My mom has had Sheri with Visiting Angels for some time now and she has truly been an answer to our prayers! Not only is she outstanding and capable, but she goes above and beyond in her care with my mom. We trust her completely. Last week my mom accidentally hit the gas burner on her cooktop turning it on without a flame running. Sheri immediately smelled the gas when she arrived. She turned off the burner, evacuated my parents from the home, and called 911. She did everything right and saved them from what would have been a probable deadly disaster. We don’t know what we’d do without her!”
