Shepherd’s Heart Ministries, a Local Montana Non-Profit Organization Provides Housing for Ukrainian Refugees in Poland
Refugees Send Videos of Gratitude on Thanksgiving Day, About 25 Families Benefit Directly with Many More Families Visiting the Facility for Supplies
In April 2022, leaders of Shepherd’s Heart Ministries – a faith-based nonprofit in Gallatin County, Montana – visited Poland to see how they can assist the Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war. It only took around 1 month for the team to secure two housing facilities in Lublin and Warsaw. Around 25 families are currently taking shelter in these refugee accommodations and are benefiting directly from Shepherd’s Heart Ministries. The facility also gets visitors and other families coming in to collect supplies. The families have shared heart-warming videos on Thanksgiving appreciating everything the organization is doing for them.
The facility offers more than just housing. The refugees are provided with Polish and English language training, emotional and psychological help, and common meeting places. Shepherd’s Heart Ministries is also contributing towards establishing new communities of Ukrainians. The war is still ugly and refugees are still coming in. Families are falling apart; women, children, and grandparents have become homeless and the number still keeps going up. These desperate souls have no knowledge of what’s going to happen. In the initial days, there was a lot of help pouring in from major organizations, but that has slowed down considerably.
It was Shepherds Heart Ministries that didn’t back out and kept finding ways to help the refugees. Doug Hartzheim and a couple of other pastors from SHM toured three facilities and spoke to several pastors, lay workers, and missionaries that have volunteered to connect all those who wanted to help these people in need. Several facilities have opened up since then which proved to be safe havens for the refugees. Despite the war, acts like these prove that humanity still exists and that God is watching over those in need and come as a blessing to offer help, hope, and solace.
Shepherds Heart Ministries is helping the Ukrainian refugees in Poland by providing housing. They are using 100% of the funds for renting houses for families. So far, over $60,000 has been raised which covers the rent for the two facilities for the first year. The organization has also started a monthly income subsidy assistance with the help of Missionary Joel Colon in Lublin.
Together everyone can make this world a better place to live and help each other in need. The group is currently raising funds to cover an additional year of rent and to accommodate more families. Interested donors can donate and can be assured that 100% of their donation goes directly to paying the rent for the refugee housing facilities.
