According to co-founder Serge Nikolin, the words captured something the company had been practicing since its founding in 2017, but had never been able to articulate clearly.

“For years we couldn’t explain in one sentence why customers chose us,” Serge Nikolin said. “We were just working the way we believed was right. Then our customer, Jessica, compared Eli to her own brother. At that moment, everything clicked.”

From Local Roots to Clear Identity

Product Air was founded by brothers Eli, Serge, and Rob Nikolin, who were born and raised in Western Washington. The company has consistently positioned itself as a family-owned, local contractor serving Snohomish County, King County, and the greater Seattle region.

But as Serge Nikolin notes, many contractors describe themselves in similar terms.

“Family-owned. Local. Born here. Everyone says that,” he said. “The difference isn’t in the label. It’s in how you behave inside someone’s home.”

The defining moment occurred during a 2025 furnace repair in Everett. After completing the service call and explaining all options clearly, the customer, Jessica, told Eli Nikolin that his approach reminded her of her younger brother, who had previously worked in home services.

That comparison became the foundation for the phrase now used across Product Air’s communications.

Building a Philosophy Around Real Behavior

Serge Nikolin says the phrase functions not only as customer-facing language but as an internal standard.

“When we hire someone new, we don’t just say ‘be customer-focused,’” he explained. “We say, ‘Walk into that house like you’re helping your own brother or sister.’ That’s a picture people understand immediately.”

Internal Standard, Not Marketing Slogan

As Product Air expanded into Seattle and added licensed technicians, dispatchers, and managers, leadership found that the phrase helped unify behavior across the growing team.

The company describes the philosophy as both grounding and demanding. It sets expectations for transparency, accountability, and follow-through on every visit.

“When you promise to act like a brother, that’s a high bar,” Serge Nikolin said. “You can’t hide behind corporate language. You own mistakes. You fix them. You stand behind your work.”

A Philosophy Born from Family Values

The Nikolin brothers were raised in a family of eighteen brothers and sisters, a background that, they say, shaped how they relate to customers and each other.

Helping one another, explaining clearly, and solving problems without pressure were learned behaviors long before the company existed.

The Everett service call simply gave those behaviors a name.

Today, the phrase appears in customer interactions, estimate visits, review responses, and internal training discussions. According to the company, it continues to shape hiring decisions and team development as Product Air grows across Western Washington.

“Our goal isn’t just to install equipment,” Serge Nikolin said. “It’s to treat people in a way that makes them feel taken care of. That’s what customers responded to long before we had a phrase for it.”
